Phew….

Cover v4It has been a hectic couple of weeks with the Outside Edge performances in Parsonage Farmhouse Gardens followed closely by the second tower dinner with Hari Covert…

We were challenged by the weather for the play performances and sadly had to abandon the Saturday night performance as the weather was so bad.

The Sunday matinee saw the sun shine as some 80 people tittered, guffawed and generally thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Cricketers Cream Tea seemed to go down well and the final performance on the Sunday evening started well but rain came down once again but the merry band of thespians continue bravely to complete it all.

Tower Dinner Winners...Then last Saturday saw our second Tower Dinner… the first in 2012 was a hit and whilst this one was not so hotly contested there were 40 plus attendees who gathered for the dinner of freshly cooked paella prepared by Hari Covert and then three lucky couples were drawn from the attendees to partake of their dinner on the roof!

Following tapas nibbles in the churchyard washed down with Sangria the roof winners climbed the staircase to the top whilst the others all sat down at one big table placed under the church bell tower and duly tucked in.

It was a great night and for us was the culmination of a busy fundraising period that overall we hope once all expenses have been covered will add circa £2,500 to our funds to continue supporting the church in their upkeep. The focal point for so many in the village means we need ever increasing sums of money on hand to fund projects to maintain the church.

Thank you to all those who helped in whatever way – we felt both events provided something very different for our community and we look forward to welcoming new and old faces to our next fundraising event… the second teddy parachute jump at the church fete on September 10th… watch this space for more details!!!

Was still a bit windy... Winners Bacon, Sully & Munro enjoy the views!

It is back…

The winners!

The winners in 2012!

We are delighted to say the dinner on the church roof provided by “Yalding’s worst kept secret” Hari Covert is back…

Saturday July 2nd is the date… To get your name into the virtual hat so that you could be a winner to dine on the roof then please just go to Hari’s fundraising page here

For just a one pound donation there is every chance you could be in the draw to be invited to attend the Paella Dinner in the churchyard. Three couples will then be chosen on the night to then have their dinner served on the roof!

When we hosted the “Pop Up” in 2012 we managed to raise circa £1500 – lets hope we can again…

Please do share this special event as it is something really unique and we can promise a view that will make it a very special dinner!

Good Luck to you all!

Medieval Chest before renovation by YCPS

Medieval Chest before renovation by YCPS

You may remember that in 2012 YCPS was responsible for the repair of the church chest at Yalding, which had been used for generations to store church valuables.

This October, two dendrochronologists from Oxford (tree ring daters to most of us) visited the church to take samples of the oak from which the chest is made in order to calculate its age.

Medieval Chest renovated by YCPS

The renovated chest

There was some discussion when they came about where the wood had come from, including from as far away as the Baltic.

As it turned out, the chest was made from local wood, with a likely felling date range 1305–21. Wood was usually used fairly quickly after felling so we can confidently date our chest to the early 14th century.

This is just one of the many projects that the YCPS has funded over the years and illustrates well the importance of the work we do in raising funds to support the fabric of the church.

Please do continue to support our fundraising…remember the YCPS 2016 calendars are still on sale via Tim Chapman at Yalding Post Office or from the Village Tea Rooms. Alternatively please reserve using the form below and pick up from either outlet or at the Yalding Yuletide Fair on Saturday 5th December 2015
